국내외 '별그대' 신드롬(syndrome)을 일으키며 드라마OST의 역사를 새로 써왔던

천송이와 도민준의 <별에서 온 그대OST> 한정판 고음질 투명블루 바이닐(LP) 전격 발매 !

나는 발라드를 그리 좋아하지 않았다. 발라드로 가득한 OST에 대한 글을 쓰면서 발라드를 좋아하지 않는다니, 여기까지만 읽고 ‘이 글은 읽을 필요가 없어!’라고 외치는 분들이 계실지도 모르겠다. 하지만 조금만 더 참고 읽어 주시길 부탁드린다. 나도 한때는 발라드를 좋아했다. 변진섭과 신승훈과 조성모 없이 나의 10대와 20대를 정의내리는 건 불가능하다. 아직도 가수들은 발라드를 부른다. 하지만 ‘발라드의 황제'나 ‘발라드의 여신'이라는 타이틀은 사라졌다. 이제 발라드는 그룹에서 메인보컬을 담당하는 아이돌이 ‘퍼포먼스 대신 가창력으로 승부를 보겠어'라는 의지를 갖고 내놓는 신보나, 간절한 사랑을 다룬 드라마의 OST를 위해서나 만들어진다. 그래서 나는 지금 발라드가 격이 떨어지는 추억의 장르라고 말하고 있는 것인가? 그럴 리가!

나는 한국형 판타지 멜로드라마를 그리 좋아하지 않았다. 지난 몇 년간 한국 멜로드라마는 오랫동안 발을 붙이고 있던 현실을 벗어나기 시작했다. 당신은 도깨비와 사랑을 할 수 있다. 구미호를 여자친구로 삼을 수도 있다. 판타지와 로맨스를 결합하는 방식은 한국 멜로드라마의 영역을 확실히 확장시켜 놓았다. 그러나 나는 <별에서 온 그대>의 간략한 내용을 처음 들었던 순간을 기억한다. 남자는 400년 동안 지구에서 살아온 외계인이다(뭐라고?). 여자는 슈퍼스타다(응?). 둘의 사랑을 끊임없이 방해하는 존재는 사이코패스에 가까운 재벌 살인마다(뭐라고요?). 나는 이 짧은 내용을 듣고 <별에서 온 그대>의 시청을 거의 포기했었다. 이렇게 말이 안 되는 이야기를 받아들이는 건 도무지 내 이성이 용납하지 않았기 때문이다. 그래서 나는 지금 <별에서 온 그대>가 격이 떨어지는 멜로드라마라고 말하고 있는 것인가? 그럴 리가!

나는 지금 이 글을 린의 를 흥얼거리면서 쓰고 있다. 나는 이 노래를 어느 순간 저절로 외워서 부르게 되었는데, <별에서 온 그대>의 방영 기간 동안 어느 동네 어느 카페를 가든 흘러나왔기 때문에 어쩔 도리가 없는 일이었다. 그걸로 끝이 아니었다. 케이윌의 <별처럼>, 효린의 <안녕>, 허각의 <오늘 같은 눈물이>, 성시경의 <너의 모든 순간>은 어디에서나 흘러나왔다. 그리고 나는 깨달았다. 발라드는 살아있었다. 대규모 팬덤의 투표가 필요한 가요 생방에서는 찾을 수 없을 터라도 OST의 세계에서는 여전히 살아있었다. 어쩌면 한국 드라마 OST는 애절한 사랑 노래를 참을 수 없어 하는 시대에도 여전히 애절한 사랑 노래를 몰래 듣고 싶어 하는 사람들을 위한 ‘발라드 도피처'가 된 것일지도 모른다. 그리고 그 도피처의 절정은 당연히 <별에서 온 그대>가 되어야 마땅하다.

<별에서 온 그대> OST는 한마디로 말하자면 ‘발라드 뮤지컬’이다. 당신은 이 모든 애절한 발라드를 들으면서 <별에서 온 그대>의 구체적인 장면들을 떠올릴 수밖에 없다. 린이 “변하지 않는 건 그대를 향한 나의 사랑입니다"라고 노래할 때 당신은 천송이와 도민준의 마지막 포옹을 떠올릴 것이다. 효린이 “사랑이 왔는데 그댄 떠난데"라고 노래할 땐 둘의 첫 키스 장면을 기억할 것이다. 케이윌이 “사랑할 것 같았죠 사랑할 수밖에 없죠"라고 노래할 땐 천송이로 가득 찬 도민준의 동공이 떠오를 것이다. 허각이 “눈물 없는 사랑은 사랑이 아니란 걸"이라고 외칠 때 천송이를 떠나야 하는 도민준의 찢어진 심장 박동을 다시 느끼고 흐느끼게 될 것이다. 성시경이 “너를 따라서 시간은 흐르고 멈춰"라고 노래하는 순간은, 아. 성시경은 정말이지 근사한 발라드 가수다. 목청이 뛰어나진 않지만 가사를 꼭꼭 씹어 음미하게 만드는 재주가 있다. (물론 나는 그의 최고작이 여전히 <미소천사>라고 생각하지만, 어쨌든). 나는 언젠가 누군가는 이 드라마를 발라드 뮤지컬로 만들어야 한다고 확신하고 있다.

물론 <별에서 온 그대>의 OST가 2010년대 한국 드라마 OST의 어떤 절정으로 기록된다면 그건 훌륭한 발라드 때문이기도 하지만 드라마 자체의 성취 덕분이기도 하다. 아무리 완성도가 높은 노래라도, 삽입된 영화나 드라마가 실패한다면 결코 빛을 발휘할 수 없다. <별에서 온 그대>는 한류의 물결을 바꿔놓은 드라마다. 2010년대 이전 K-드라마는 복장이 터지도록 답답하게 구는 사랑 중독자들의 비극이었다. <별에서 온 그대>는 여전한 사랑 중독자들의 이야기지만 사랑 앞에서 징징대지는 않는 보다 쿨한 사랑 중독자들의 이야기다. 그리고 한국 드라마 특유의 징글징글한 관계성을 완전히 벗어던지지 않으면서도 혼합된 장르의 컨벤션 안에서 기막히게 풀어낸 그야말로 K-드라마의 진화다. 먼 훗날 한국 드라마의 역사를 다룬 책이 나온다면 <별에서 온 그대>는 <겨울연가>, <오징어 게임>과 함께 자신만의 두꺼운 챕터를 갖게 될 것이 틀림없다.

이 글을 쓰며 가만 생각해보니 <별에서 온 그대>가 방영된 지도 거의 10여 년이 흘렀다. 나는 사십대가 됐다. 사십대가 되면 애절한 발라드로 가득한 멜로드라마로부터 점점 멀어지게 된다. 나이가 든다는 건 그런 것이다. 하지만 스피커에서 의 전주가 흘러나오는 순간, 나는 400년을 살았지만 여전히 사랑에 목매는 남자가 되어 코인노래방에 가고 싶은 충동에 사로 잡히고야 만다. 당신도 분명히 그럴 것이다.

Returns & Exchanges

Requirements
Please take into consideration that we only accept qualifying returns but not exchanges.
Refunds are issued once the returned products clear our inspection.

An item is eligible for cancellation if :

- you posted a Return request within 24 hours of payment and your order is still under “Pending” status
(if your order is under “Queued for Shipment” status, please contact our customer service center) OR
- the order is delayed for more than 10 days since payment and you have not received any notification regarding the delay OR
- the ordered item is out of stock.

We accept return(s) if :

- you receive a product different from your order OR
- you receive a defective product.

① Post a return request on our Return forum within three days of receipt. You are required to attach the photos of the received product(s) and include the item code, the order number, and the reason for the return.
② A customer service representative will be in contact to assist you by email or phone.
③ Items returned must be in their original condition, which includes tags and any packaging. Also, you need to include a note of your order number, name, and user ID.

Please note that EVEN the defective/incorrect item(s) must be returned with all of the tags and labels intact. The item(s) must be sent in their original packaging and unworn.

Shipping fee for any return caused by our fault will be paid by the company. However, if EMS’ cash on delivery is not possible then you can scan the return receipt and either mail it with the item to return or post an image of it on the forum.
