Seok Ho Han) 감성과 열정을 극대화 한 에너지의 기록, 런던 메트로폴리탄 스튜디오의 전 곡 마스터링으로 색깔이 더해진 대폭발사운드 3인조 락 밴드 Art of Parties 정규 1집 [Ophelia] 김바다, 그리고 Art of Parties 시나위 6집은 데뷔 이래 최고의 명반으로 손꼽히며 ‘김바다’라는 역량 있는 보컬을 발굴했다. 그는 얼굴 한번 찡그리지 않은 채 그저 무표정하게 노래만 불러도 오직 그 목소리만으로 공연장을 압도하는, 보컬의 마에스트로, 대한민국 최고의 보컬 파워로 불린다. 오직 노래에만 집중하는 날 선 목소리, 김바다는 시나위에서 삭막한 어린 시절을 보내고 대중들이 열광했던 나비효과를 거쳐 더 레이시오스, 그리고 지금의 아트 오브 파티스에 이르기까지 자신을 던져 일렉트로닉, 싸이키델릭 등을 결합하는 실험의 시간을 가졌다. 이 여정은 밴드의 중심을 자신에게로 옮겨옴과 동시에 그 내면의 제국을 견고히 하고 색깔을 분명히 채우는 과정이었다. 그 인고의 세월과 역량을 과시할 야심의 기회로 Art of parties가 결성됐다. 멤버들도 새롭다. 수많은 모니터링을 거쳐 발굴해낸 기타리스트 박주영과 국내 보기 드문 여성 드러머 김주영이 모여 밴드를 결성한 것은 어쩌면 이 현실적인 한국음악시장의 시선에선 위험한 모험일지 모른다. 그러나 김바다가 누구인가? 반항아, 그리고 순수한 뜨거움을 태우는 예술가이다. 어쩌면 아직까지 그를 지탱하고 있는 그 순수하고 무모한 믿음이 바로 Art of Parties의 시작인지도 모르겠다. 에너지의 기록, Art of Parties 1집 [Ophelia] 오필리아는 연인, 햄릿에 의해 아버지가 살해되고 진정한 사랑이라고 믿었던 연인마저 떠나버리자 미쳐버려 떠돌다 결국 죽음을 맞이하는 비운의 여인이다. 그녀의 안타까운 사연은 연극 무대 뿐 아니라 거장의 캔버스에, 시인의 낡은 노트에 여전히 회자되고 있다. 그리고 여기, Art of Parties의 정규 1집, [Ophelia]가 있다. ‘Simple is the Best!’ 락커빌리, 펑크, 얼터너티브, 모던락, 싸이키델릭, 일렉트로 등 다양한 음악적 장르의 시도를 보여주었던 그가 심플하지만 결코 심플하지 않은 락으로 돌아왔다. 뉴웨이브와 게러지하우스, 거친 기타 사운드가 살아 숨 쉬는 사운드로 한 단계 진화한 그의 음악은 정확히 장르화하기 어렵다. 21세기 헤비-싸이키델릭 어디쯤 될까. 총 12트랙이 수록된 이 앨범은 샘플링에 의존하지 않은 리얼 녹음으로 약 3개월 정도 걸렸다. 작사와 작곡은 김바다, 편곡은 밴드가 함께 했다. 레코딩의 에너지를 그대로 전달하기 위해 믹싱은 뮤지션 각자의 연주에서 느껴지는 열정과 감정표현에 포인트를 두었다. 믹싱 후 보다 극대화된 컬러레이션에 대한 목마름으로 한 번도 만나본 적 없는 엔지니어 마젠무라드를 소개 받아, 그의 작업실인 런던의 메트로폴리스 스튜디오로 보내기로 결정, 전곡을 마스터링 하게 된다. 이것은 시간과 장소의 제약으로 원활하게 의사소통할 수 없는 환경에서 그저 엔지니어의 음악적 이해도에 기댈 수밖에 없는 일종의 모험이었다. 그러나 며칠 후 도착한 음원이 플레이 되자, 그간 국내에서 작업되었던 어떤 음반과도 비교가 불가능한 탁월한 볼륨감과 폭발적인 사운드에 모두들 환호했다. 먼저 발매된 EP [seitrap fo tra]에 수록되었던 ‘shot’, ‘die out’, ‘recover’, ‘seitrap fo tra’도 편곡과 재녹음, 역량 있는 마스터링으로 다시 태어나는 순간이었다. EP에서 옥상 라이브 버전으로 수록되었던 ‘신기루’는 이 앨범에서 얼터너티브 버전으로 첫 트랙을 열고 있다. 러프한 음색이지만 서정적인 내용을 노래하는 모순이 감동을 자아내는 곡으로 90년대 초의 락 사운드에 대한 향수와 그리움, 그리고 설렘이 느껴진다. 두 번째 트랙인 ‘Art of parties는 틀에 박힌 형식이나 코드도 없이 긁어대는 인트로에서 부터 Art of Paties의 성격을 여실히 보여준다. 멤버들의 열정과 파괴력을 퇴폐적이고 뇌쇄적으로 표현하여 지독한 인생에 대한 그들의 시선을 가장 잘 나타내는 곡이다. Post psychedelic이라는 말을 노래로서 정의하라고 한다면 이 앨범의 네 번째 수록곡, ’ Seitrap fo tra’을 소개한다. 헤비하고 비현실적인 싸이키델릭의 몽환적 정서는 “300킬로로 질주하라!”라는 가사로 에너지가 되어 내달린다. 미치도록 아름다운 록의 파티, Art of Parties와 함께 질주하라! We accept return(s) if :- you receive a product different from your order OR - you receive a defective product.
[ Return Instructions ] ① Post a return request on our Return forum within three days of receipt.
