Till I said - 경화수월 09. 나의노래 - 정미영밴드 10. 눈물 없이는 들을 수 없는 라면의 노래 - RIOT (라이엇) Aurora Project? 인디의 진정한 독립을 갈망하는 오로라 프로젝트의 첫번째 시도 홍대 앞을 자주 찾는 이라면 한 번쯤 들어본 이름일 것이다. 합주실, 공연장, 길거리, 장소를 가리지 않고 붙어있던 동명의 포스터에는 ‘Are You Musician?’이라는 문구가 써있었다. 오로라프로젝트는 대한민국 인디뮤지션의 인적네트워크 형성을 위한 프로젝트로, 다양한 매력을 가진 인디뮤지션을 발굴하고 그들에게 앨범참여 기회를 줌으로서 인디음악의 진정한 독립성을 추구하고자 하는 일종의 캠페인이다. 매스미디어에 젖은 인디씬. 거대자본과 타협하고, 심지어 오버그라운드와의 선조차 모호해지는 그 굴레를 우리는 진정한 인디라 부를 수 있을까? 최근 사회의 잦은 관심과 조명에도 불구하고 여전히 인디씬은 변함없이 어렵다. 그렇기에 ‘인디’라지만, 최소한 음악인에게 진정 음악을 할 수 있는 기회를 주자는 취지에서 출발한 오로라프로젝트는 인디씬의 쉽지만은 않은 현실과 맞닿아 있다. 오로라프로젝트의 이번 시도에선 뜨거운 열정과 순수 창작곡들로 무장한 다양한 뮤지션들의 공모를 통해 총 10팀이 선발되고, 녹음부터 앨범이 완성되는 모든 과정을 지원해주는 모습을 보여주고 있다. 아무런 형태나 기준도 없는 상태에서 각기 다른 뮤지션들이 모여 하나의 옴니버스 앨범을 만들어내는 것은 근래에 찾아보기 힘든 모습이라 할 수 있다. 옴니버스 앨범 Vol1. ‘White’대한민국 인디신이 전하는 열가지 감성 사운드 각기 다른 색들이 하나로 모여 하나의 아름다움을 만들 듯, 각기 다른 색의 뮤지션들이 하나로 모여 오로라와 같은 빛을 만들어내자는 오로라프로젝트. 그 첫 번째 시작은 옴니버스 앨범인 ‘White’다. 마치 아무 것도 존재하지 않는 새하얀 백지와 같은 상태에서 시작하게 된 앨범이니만큼 그 의미가 남다르다 할 수 있다. 이 앨범은 기존에 만들어진 곡들을 조합한 컴필레이션이 아닌 오직 순수창작곡으로만 구성한 옴니버스 앨범임에도, 어떤 기획적인 의도나 구성보다 뮤지션 개개인의 의사나 색깔을 넣는데 집중했다. 적잖이 거센 밴드사운드로 무장한 강렬한 음악이 흘러나오다가도, 차분한 어쿠스틱 기타 너머로 의미심장한 랩이 흘러나오기도 한다. 좀처럼 비슷한 장르나 스타일의 곡을 찾기 힘든 이 앨범의 진정한 의도는 무엇일까? 오로라프로젝트는 그 답을 자신들이 아닌 뮤지션들에게 온전히 내어놓았다. 아무 것도 없는 백지에 무엇을 칠하던 그건 그들의 자유고, 그들이 각자의 색을 온전히 낼 때야말로 오로라프로젝트의 진짜 의미가 완성되는 것이다. 이토록 자유롭고, 이토록 인디스러운 발상이 또 어디 있을까? 앨범의 이름은 ‘White지만, 내용물은 이미 수많은 색들로 가득 채워져 있었다. 오로라답게 다음 앨범에선 또 다른 색깔을 담아내겠다고 자신 있게 말하는 이들의 다음 행보가 벌써부터 기대된다. 쿠키크럼블스[비 오는 소리] 매력적인 여성보컬과 풍부한 사운드로 무장한 밴드. 사람들의 지친 일상을 달래주는 여유롭고 행복한 음악을 들려주고 싶다는 그들은 클럽 프리버드, 긱 라이브하우스, 클럽 FB 등지에서 다양한 활동을 펼치고 있다. Funkiz[Lita] 근래에 보기 힘든 펑키한 음악을 들려주고 있는 밴드 Funkiz. 이름부터 그들의 음악의 지향성을 잘 말해주고 있다. Acid Jazz적인 색도 진하게 풍기는 그들은 관객들과 함께 열광하고 즐길 수 있는 음악을 지향한다고 한다. 최고은[Forest] 아직 경력이나 앨범이 없다는 것이 의아할 정도의 실력파 여성 싱어송라이터. 풍부한 음색과 차분한 기타 선율이 하나로 묶는 건 최고은 특유의 차분함과 여유로움일 것이다. 특히 사람, 삶, 자연을 바라보는 시선과 노랫말이 예사롭지 않다. 정미영밴드[나의 노래] 이런 게 인디가 가지고 있는 힘이 아닌가 싶다. 분명 호불호가 있을 CCM임에도, 10곡 중 하나로 선정되었던 건 어떤 이유였을까? 가사를 귀 기울여 듣지 않는다면 정말 CCM인가 싶을 정도로 세련되고 독특한 곡의 정체성은, 이들이 분명 인디 밴드임을 알리고 있다. 이런 자유로움이야말로 인디씬의 한 모습이 아닐까. 롸이엇[눈물 없이는 들을 수 없는 라면의 노래] 키치하고 마이너한 감성으로 무장한 신인 듀오 롸이엇. 모던락 기반의 사운드에 묵직한 랩은 그 어디에서도 쉽사리 찾아볼 수 없는 신선한 스타일을 갖고 있다. 이들의 노래는 항상 의미심장한 메시지를 담고 있는 가사에 집중하는 것이 좋다. 쉽고 재미있지만, 제목처럼 그저 웃을 수만은 없는 여운이 매력적이다. 자락프로젝트[나는 어디에] 싱어송라이터 임원혁을 중심으로 구성 된 프로젝트 밴드. 진한 어쿠스틱 사운드와 적잖은 비중의 첼로 선율이 그들의 우울한 정서를 풀어내고 있다. 이 곡은 그들의 정체성과 메세지가 잘 담겨있는 곡이라 할 수 있다. 다음 발전을 기대하게 하는 임원혁의 수준 높은 보컬도 감상 포인트. 홀린[썩은 나무] 누군가의 슬픔을 위로하는 노래를 하고 싶다는 그들의 노래는 그런 슬픔에 관한 이야기들을 한껏 담고 있다. 락발라드의 낮고 진중한 멜로디로 외로움과 아픔을 노래하고, 치유한다. 보컬의 호소력있는 목소리가 매력적이다. Flash Cube[Save me, Save us] 이들의 곡은 아주 평범한 음악적 사유에 다가간다. 기름으로 얼룩졌던 태안의 바다가 사람들의 손으로 다시 회복되는 과정을 지켜보며, 사람과 사람이 모이고 하나가 될 때야 말로 그런 기적들을 낳을 수 있다는 사실. 곧 그런 마음과 그런 노래를 부르고 있다. 음악이 그런 힘을 갖고 있다는 건 누구나 알고 있는 보편적 사실이지만, 가장 위대한 사실이기도 하다. 퀘보스타[유령] 이미 인디씬에서 활발한 활동을 통해 많은 팬을 확보하고 있는 밴드 퀘보스타. 풀밴드 사운드에 DJ와 퍼커션이 함께 참여 해 무어라 정의 내릴 수 없는 다양한 음악을 보여주고 있다. 보컬 역시 이에 못지 않게 독특한 음색을 가지고 있어 그들의 정체성에 힘을 보탠다. 굳이 표현하자면 Groove & Rhythm일까나. 경화수월[Till I Sad] 베이시스트 황현우의 싱어송라이터로의 변신. 그가 평소 가지고 있던 이야기들과 멜로디들이 잔잔한 기타와 함께 펼쳐진다. 능숙하진 않지만, 진정성이 담겨있는 보컬과 깊은 멜로디는 여느 밴드사운드 못지 않은 강한 힘과 진정성이 느껴진다. |
