01. 극소량 02. 입자 03. 아주 작은조각 04. 미진, 티끌 서정미와 노이즈테러가 공존하는 한국 IDM의 대표주자 톡식바이어스플뤠르아이비 (Toxicbiasfleurivy)가 선보이는 미세 입자의 환타지. 대망의 2009년도 신작. [particles] 벌써 세 번째 정규작이다. 전작들의 소소한 성공을 토대로 골치 아픈 일렉트로닉 뮤직씬에서 유일하게 생존하여 꾸준히 앨범을 발매하고 있다. 여전히 감성적인 공기를 잘개 쪼개서 짤라 붙이거나 구겨버린 다음에 제멋대로 이어 놓는 방식은 계속된다. 열라 스테레오라서 이런 음악의 특성상 헤드폰으로 듣고 앉아있으면 무척 재밌다. 그렇기 때문에 헤드폰의 스테레오 테스트를 할 때 사용하면 효과 만점일 것이다. 소리를 추상적으로 이미지화 하는 작업은 그대로이지만 음악이 어떻게 비춰지던 간에 일단 이들은 어깨에 힘을 약간 뺐다. 그렇다고 방심하면 큰일난다. 이전보다 더욱 과격하고 입체적인 효과들이 앨범을 듣는 내내 청자의 심장을 오그라들게 만든다. 너무 정박의 비트는 본 앨범에서는 이제 아예 찾아볼 수 없는데 이 지점이 바로 해외의 트렌드와 발맞춰 나가는 부분이기도 하지만 정작 이들은 시큰둥해 할 것 같다. 일비언트, 드릴 앤 베이스, 노이즈 테러를 바탕으로 뭔가 미묘한 대기를 만들어내는 특기는 점점 일취월장하고 있다. 심지어 듣다 보면 아주 달콤한 부분들이 있기도 하다. 이런 학구적인 일렉트로닉 앨범이 자신의 취향이 아니더라도 이 '소리효과'를 체험해 보는 것은 독특한 경험을 제공해 줄 것이다. 아마도 아이도저 이런 것 보다 나을지도 모르겠다. 다음은 톡식바이어스플뤠르아이비와 가진 인터넷 대담이다. 뜬구름 잡는 소개글 보다는 창작자와의 대화에서 더 직접적인 부분들을 얻을 수 있을 것 같기에 특별히 모셨다. 파스텔 문예부(이하 파스텔) : 특별하게 앨범을 작업하면서 영향 받았던게 있었는지. Toxicbiasfleurivy(이하 tbfi) : 우주나 UFO 같은 것들에 관한 흔한 관심들 같은 것을 우리도 가지고 있었다. 물질질의 근원적 요소가 ‘Particle’인지, ‘String’ 인지 그런거는 모른다. 근데 입자가 마음에 들었다. 잘 보이지도 않게 작고(거의 이론상으로나 가져다 쓰는게 태반이니..), 더구나 반 물질에 관한 무용담들을 접할 때면 아무것도 모르는 주제에 재미가 있고 그랬다. 파스텔 : 직접적인 동기가 있었는가? tbfi : 다차원을 설명하는 박사님들의 동영상 같은 것을 보고 있자니 우리 작업하고 한번 엮어보고 싶었다. 우린 정말 어쩌다 보니 엮였다. 여튼 때마침 당시 입자 가속기니 뭐니 해서 우주관련 이슈들도 많이 접했다. 사실 우린 아직까지 현실을 날카롭게 파헤쳐 뭔가 대단한걸 내놓기엔 내공이 후달린다. 알고 보면 그래서 우리가 입자니 우주니 하는 뜬금없는 것들을 훑었나 보다. 파스텔 : 뭐랄까... 약간 좀 더 구체적인 작품 구성에 대한 설명이 가능할까? tbfi : IDM이나 뭔가 굉장한 작업들을 추구하시는 분들은 전혀 아름다운 음반이라고 할 수 없는 결과다. 하지만 확실한 것은 입맛이 까다로운 다른 사람들 구색을 맞추느니 그냥 뻔뻔하고 뺀질뺀질하게 우리가 듣고 멋지면 끝이다. 그냥 우린 들리는 대로 한다. 그게 좀 중요하다. 들리는 대로… 파스텔 : 지난 앨범의 트랙들은 대부분 짧았고 가능한 짧은 것이 좋다고 하기도 했다. tbfi : 길고 짧은 것은 상대적인 것이겠지? 이번 앨범은 반대로 긴 게 좀 많다. 파스텔 : 이번에도 파스텔하고 간다. tbfi : 파스텔에서는 우리 앨범 발매를 결정할 때 별다른 태클이 없다. 하지만 도저히 파스텔 뮤직 같이 건실한 레이블에서 나올만한 음반은 아니라고 생각한다.(ㅋㅋ) 지나치게 감상적이거나 치기어린 부분들은 거의 초월했다. 그만큼 하고싶은걸 항상 해내고 있다는 사실을 말하고 싶다. 파스텔 : 무슨 소린가, 이번 앨범에서도 서정적이고 감상적인 부분들 또한 존재하는 구만. 내 생각에 당신들은 거기에 재능이 있다. tbfi : 시끄럽다. 파스텔 : 혹시 요즘 따로 듣는 거 있는가? tbfi : [아내의 유혹] OST를 듣고 있는 중이다. 파스텔 : 앨범을 듣는 애청자들에게 뭔가 던져줄 힌트 같은거 있는가? tbfi : 적당히들 해라. 우리가 표현하는 게 우주의 생성과 소멸에 관한 서사시 이런 것들이 아니다. 그냥 쎈 농담 정도로 봐주면 좋겠다. 늘 불분명하고 가끔은 환상적이고 어쩌다는 이게 뭔가 싶을 정도의 어지러움과 혼란스러움을 담기도 했다. 모 굳이 하나 더 추가하자면 듣는 사람들 고막에 기스 좀 낼려고 했다. 이게 컨셉임.(ㅋㅋ) 파스텔 : 'particles' 말고 앨범을 정의하는 다른 단어가 있을까? tbfi : 아스트랄. 글 : 파스텔 문예부 |
