01. 인조이 02. 슬럼프 03. 트라우마 04. 고양이머리 05. 필리아 06. 디어 07. 작별 SM엔터테인먼트 출신 싱어송라이터 ‘일권’ 미니앨범 [Kitten-Head; Artisanat] 발매! ★★★ 한국의 제이슨 므라즈로 돌아왔다. ★★★ 진짜 일권은 이제부터 시작! 1998년 ‘배드 보이 써클(B-boys’ C)’이라는 SM 엔터테인먼트 최초 록밴드를 기억하는지, 3년 동안 홍대 클럽 드럭 등지에서 갈고 닦은 실력으로 한국대중음악시장에게 펑크록이라는 장르를 알린 조상 밴드이다. 요즘은JYP의 랩퍼였던 산이, 예당의 국카스텐 영입처럼 메이저 기획사에서 실력 있는 아티스트를 찾는 것이 흔한 일이나 그 당시만 해도 메이저에서 인디를 스카우트하는 일은 드물었다. 그렇게 배드 보이 서클은 주목받으며 공중파를 누볐다. 그러나 음악적 타협 없이 계속 대형기획사에서 활동하는 것은 쉽지 않았다. 이 밴드의 리더였던 ‘일권’은 2010년 자체 레이블을 통해 음악활동을 재개했고, 슈퍼스타K 출신 가수 김지수와 타루의 곡을 작곡하기도 했다. 그리고2013년 10월 11일 그동안 제대로 선보이지 못한 음악적 역량과 대중적인 접점을 적절히 융합한 곡으로 무장해 미니앨범 [Kitten-Head; Artisanat]을 발매한다. 모든 곡의 작사/작곡은 물론 프로듀싱, 프로그래밍에서 기타와 피들 등 여러 악기를 직접 연주하며 일권이 진두지휘한 앨범이다. 앨범의 타이틀 [Kitten-Head; Artisanat]은 4번 트랙의 제목인 사랑스러울 뿐 아니라 위트 있고 똑똑하기까지 한 것을 일컫는 단어 ‘Kitten-Head’ 와 가내수공업이란 뜻을 가진 ‘Artisanat’을 연결해 사용했다. 이번 앨범은 DIY정신으로 무장한 레이블 <올드레코드>와 의기투합에 1년간 준비해왔다. 미니앨범에 수록된 총 7곡은 사랑, 희생, 고뇌 등 삶의 보편적 주제들을 담은 노랫말과 귀에 익숙하고 세련된 선율로 지나치게 슬프거나 격정적이지 않으면서도 잔잔한 정서를 표현하는 일권의 스타일을 보여준다. 장르로 구분하자면 POP이지만, 하나의 스타일로 규정지을 수 없는, 포크, 컨트리, 록 등이 융합된 ‘초 장르(beyond genre)’를 지향하고 있다고 보는 것이 정확하다. 타이틀곡인 2번 트랙 ‘슬럼프 (Slump)’은 꿈을 간직했으나 성공하지 못한 자의 감정을 읊조린 곡이다. 신나는 컨트리로 앨범의 시작을 여는 ‘ENJOY’, 단조이지만 밝은 느낌을 구사하는 ‘트라우마(Trauma)’, 누구나 공감할만한 가사와 선율의 사랑스런 느낌의 ’고양이머리(Kitten-Head)’ 등 일권의 매력에 흠뻑 느낄 수 있는 앨범이다. 올드레코드 소속사 관계자는 "일권의 새로운 시작인만큼 기존과 다른 매력을 선보일 일권의 음악에 많은 기대 부탁 드린다"고 당부했다. 일권의 앨범은 10월 11일 낮 12시를 기점으로 전 음원 사이트를 통해 공개된다. |
