두 개의 악기가 만나 각기 다른 음색과 기법으로 하나의 작품을 구성해 내는 듀오 편성에서는 한쪽에 치우치지 않도록 음악적 균형을 이루어야 한다는 점과 대규모 악기편성에 못지 않은 꽉 찬 사운드를 만들어내야 한다는 점에서 쉽지 않은 시도라고 할 수 있겠다. 기타와 오보에의 음색이 매우 잘 어울림에도 불구하고 이렇게 이루어진 앙상블이 세계적으로도 많지 않다는 점에서 기타리스트 김우재와 오보이스트 손연지의 만남은 자못 흥미롭다. 특히 이번 음반에서 Piazzolla 탱고는 오보에로 녹음된 예를 찾아보기 힘들 정도로 많지 않은데도 불구하고 기타와 함께 오보에로 Piazzolla의 탱고를 담아내고 있으며, Coste의 곡 Concertino는 오보에와 피아노를 위한 곡인데 오보이스트 손연지가 클래식기타와 할 수 있지 않을까 하는 생각으로 시작해 기타리스트 김우재가 편곡하여 한국에서 초연하였다. 이미 국내외에서 각기 활발한 활동을 보이고 있는 두 연주자들이 모인 Estro Duo(에스트로 듀오)는 이 음반을 통해 잘 알려진 곡에서부터 조금 낯선 곡까지 다양한 4개의 곡을 선택, 편곡하여 흔하지 않은 듀오 사운드 속으로 우리들의 귀를 이끌었다. "Estro Duo" '기타리스트 김우재'는 서울대학교 음악대학과 대학원을 졸업하고 독일 함부르크 국립음악대학에서 수학하였다. 그 후 독일을 거점으로 세계를 무대로 활동하고 있으며, '오보이스트 손연지'는 서울예고와 서울대학교를 졸업하고 미국 피바디 콘서바토리와 매릴랜드 음악대학에서 석사와 박사를 마친 후 다방면에 걸쳐 왕성한 활동을 하고 있다. |
