해금으로 빚어내는 순백의 아름다움 섬세하고 깨끗한 음색으로 순도 높은 해금 연주를 보여 주며 일찍이 그 기량을 인정받아 온 해금 연주자 선지우의 앨범 <고유 Essential>가 공개되었다. 선지우는 국립국악원 창작악단에 최연소로 입단하며 오케스트라 안에서도 조화로운 연주를 펼쳐 보이고 있지만, 그녀의 해금 소리를 좀 더 집중해서 듣고 싶었을 이들에게 이번 앨범은 더욱 반갑기 그지없을 것이다. 2022년 프로듀서 소준섭과 협업한 싱글들을 발매하며 음악적 스펙트럼을 확장해 온 그녀는 이번 앨범에서 대표적인 클래식 소품들을 해금의 특성에 맞게 편곡하고 프로듀싱하는 등 전 과정을 도맡았다. 특히 반주에는 섬세한 연주로 이름을 알리며 손열음, 임선혜, 대니 구 등 여러 유명 아티스트와 협업을 이어 가고 있는 피아니스트 문재원이 함께해 앨범의 가치를 더했다. 바흐의 "G선상의 아리아", 슈베르트의 "세레나데", 드뷔시의 "달빛" 등 이번 앨범은 대중들에게도 꽤 익숙한 곡들로 이루어져 있다. 그만큼 원곡의 아우라가 큼에도 불구하고 그녀는 클래식 음악에 대한 높은 이해를 바탕으로 이를 해금으로 완벽히 재해석하고 대중들에게 한발 다가선다. 타이틀 곡으로는 쥘 마스네의 "타이스의 명상"과 마누엘 폰세의 "작은 별"이 선정되었다. "타이스의 명상"은 원곡의 난이도가 높기로 유명한 곡임에도 해금으로 소화해 내는 한편 "작은 별"은 해금 특유의 흘러내리고 끌어올리는 표현을 극대화하며 원곡의 감성을 더욱 풍부하게 표현했다. 앨범 타이틀이 암시하듯 해금과 클래식 각각의 고유한 아름다움이 서로를 해치지 않도록 정교하게 짜인 이 앨범은 색깔로 따지자면 흰빛과 닮아 있다. 흰빛은 그 자체로 완전해 보이지만 모든 스펙트럼의 빛이 혼합된 상태이듯 해금 특유의 음색과 클래식의 선율은 긴밀하게 어울리며 빛을 발한다. 누구도 밟지 않은 눈밭의 눈부신 흰빛에 잠시 눈이 시려오듯 이 앨범은 잠시간 우리에게 각성과 정화의 순간을 선사한다. 김보경, 문학 평론가 01.
