L.A. Jazz Trio는 원곡의 아름다움을 표현하는 슬로 연주를 들려주고 있다. ②Greensleeves 16세기에 태어난 영국의 민요. 19세기에 윌리엄 채터튼 딕스(William Chatterton Dix)가 가사를 붙여, 찬미가 「What child is this?」로서 알려지게 되었다. 크리스마스 넘버로서 연주되는 적이 많은데, 존 콜트레인(John Coltrane), 폴 데스몬드(Paul Desmond) 처럼 단독으로 연주해 명연을 남긴 아티스트도 적지 않다. L.A. Jazz Trio의 원곡의 이미지에서 많이 동 떨어 지지 않은 에드리브 연주도 일품이다. ③Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer 로버트 메이(Robert May)가 자신의 아이에게 들려주기 위해 창작한 시집「빨간 코 사슴」이 베스트 셀러를 기록. 그것을 기본으로 해서 1949년에 존 막스(John Marks)가 작사 작곡, 같은 해 진 오트리(Gene Autry)의 노래가 1위가 된 크리스마스의 인기곡. 원제는 "Rudolph,the red-nosed reindeer", 빛나는 빨간 코를 가진 “루돌프”라는 이름의 사슴의 노래다. 루돌프는 가장 유명한 사슴이 되었다. ④Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town 아이와 함께 가족들이 즐기는 유명한 크리스마스 송. 1934년에 제이 프레드 쿠츠(J Fred Coots)가 작곡, 헤이븐 길레스피(Haven Gillespie)가 작사, 같은 해 말에 George Hall Orchestra(가수는 Sony Schuyler)가 대 히트. 47년에는 빙 크로스비 앤 앤드류스 시스터즈(Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters)의 듀엣 음반이 재 히트했다. 「산타클로스는 선물을 줄 착한 어린이 리스트를 만들고 있다」라는 가사도 유쾌하다. 여기에서의 연주도 리드미컬하고 즐겁다. 피아노가 마지막에 카운트 베이시(Count Basie) 특유의 엔딩을 인용한다. ⑤Silent Night 「고요한 밤 거룩한 밤」이라는 제목으로도 알려진 크리스마스 하면 떠오르는 곡. 이 곡이 없으면 크리스마스는 시작하지 않을 것이다. 19세기 초에 오스트리아의 가난한 마을의 교회 목사 요셉 모어(Joseph Mohr)가 작사, 그 교회의 오르간 연주자 프란츠 그루버(Franz Xaver Gruber)가 작곡했다고 알려진다. 영역(英？) 가사는 존 프리먼 영(John Freeman Young)이 썼다. L.A. Jazz Trio는 가스펄 풍의 요소를 넣은 버전이다. ⑥Silver Bells 「White Christmas」를 시작으로 「Silent Night」 「Jingle Bell」 등 빙 크로스비(Bing Crosby)가 히트 시킨 크리스마스 송이 많다. 이 곡도 그렇다. 영화 『The Lemon Drop Kid』(51年)에 수록된 곡으로, 다음해에 히트했다. 제이 리빙스톤(Jay Livingston), 레이몬드 에반스(Raymond Evans)의 공동 작곡. 「Monna Lisa」「Que Sera Sera」등을 작곡한 명 콤디다. L.A. Jazz Trio의 연주는 테마 멜로디와 에드리브의 밸런스가 아주 좋고, 크리스마스 무드를 내면서 흥미 깊은 재즈 연주도 들려준다. ⑦White Christmas 1942년의 영화 『Holiday Inn』을 위해 어빙 벌린(Irving Berlin)가 작사 작곡한 가장 유명한 크리스마스 송의 하나. 주연인 빙 크로스비(Bing Crosby)가 불러 크게 히트했다. 54년의 크로스비 주연의 영화 『White Christmas』의 주제가도 된다. 크로스비는 이 곡에서 레코드 사상 최고의 세일즈 기록을 세우고, 기네스북에 등재되었다. 새하얀 눈이 내려 쌓인 크리스마스의 즐거운 정경이 그려진 곡이다. 여기에서는 우아하게 스윙하는 버전을 들을 수 있다. ⑧Winter Wonderland 썰매 방울 소리, 눈사람 등이 가사에 등장하는 러브 송 적인 요소도 많은 곡이다. 크리스마스 송 중에서도 팝적인 느낌이 강하다. 1934년에 펠릭스 버나드(Felix Bernard)가 작곡, 딕 스미스(Dick Smith)가 작사, 처음에 댄스 음악계의 Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians가 같은 해에 히트 시켰다. 그 후, 페리 코모(Perry Como), 앤드류스 시스터즈(Andrews Sisters)의 노래도 히트. ⑨O Christmas Tree 독일에서 태어난 크리스마스 캐롤. 원제는 독일어인「O Tannenbaum」, 영제(英題)는 「O Christmas Tree」. 영국의 빅토리아 여왕의 부군, 독일 출생의 알버트(Albert)공이 이 곡을 영국에 가져왔다고 한다. 또한, 독일의 풍습이었던 크리스마스 트리를 영국에 전한 것도 이 알버트공 이었다고 한다. L.A. Jazz Trio는 찬미가 느낌의 원곡을 스윙한 재즈로 어레인지 하고 있다. ⑩Jingle Bells 크리스마스 송의 대표곡. 1857년에 보스톤의 작곡가 J.S.PIERPONT가 작사 작곡, 말 썰매 경쟁의 정경을 힌트로 해서 썼다. 가사에도 말 썰매가 등장한다. 베니 굿맨(Benny Goodman), 빙 크로스비 앤 앤드류스 시스터즈(Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters)의 듀엣, 레스 폴(Les Paul) 등의 버전이 히트했다. 여기에서의 트리오 연주는 보사노바 터치의 편곡으로 즐겁다. ⑪O Little Town Of Bethlehem 1868년 필라델피아(Philadelphia)의 트리니티(Trinity) 교회의 목사 필립스 부륵스(Phillips Brooks)가 성지(聖地) 베들레헴(Bethlehem)에 갔을때에 영감을 얻어 가사를 쓰고, 교회의 오르간 연주자 루이스 헨리 레드너(Lewis Henry Redner)가 작곡했다.
