두 연주자는 중학교 시절 동창으로서 처음 인연을 맺었으며, 이후 독일 쾰른에서 다시 만나게 되었다. 그들은 음악적 교감을 나누며 많은 공통점을 발견했고, 특히 바흐에 대한 깊은 애정이 두 사람을 더욱 가깝게 만들었다. 유학 시절, 흔히 연주되지 않는 이 소나타를 접한 두 연주자는 작품의 독창성과 깊이에 매료되었고, 함께 연구하며 수차례의 리딩을 거듭했다. 쾰른에서 학업을 이어가던 당시, 언젠가 바흐의 음악을 무대에서 연주하고 싶다는 꿈을 품었으며, 그 짧지만 강렬했던 시간이 계기가 되어 10 년이 지난 지금, 이번 프로젝트를 통해 결실을 맺게 되었다. 오랜 시간 무대에서 호흡을 맞춰온 두 연주자는 이번 연주를 통해 바흐에 대한 애정을 더욱 깊이 공유하고자 한다. 원래 이 곡은 하프시코드와 바로크 바이올린을 위한 작품이지만, 이번 레코딩에서는 현대 피아노와 바이올린으로 연주되는 만큼 시대적 변화를 어떻게 반영할 것인지에 대한 깊은 고민이 필요했다. 이에 따라, 다양한 시대의 연주 방식을 참고하고, 원전 악보를 면밀히 분석하며, 현대 청중들에게 바흐의 음악을 가장 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 방안을 모색했다. 바흐가 남긴 방대한 음악적 유산을 바탕으로 수많은 작곡가들이 음악사를 발전시켜 왔으며, 현대 연주자들 또한 그러한 흐름 속에서 교육받고 성장해왔다. 악기의 발전 또한 이러한 과정과 함께 이루어졌다. 그렇다면 오늘날 우리는 바흐의 음악을 어떤 관점에서 해석해야 할 것인가? 바흐가 활동하던 시대에는 녹음 기술이 존재하지 않았으며, 그의 음악은 오직 악보와 문헌을 통해 전해져 왔다. 따라서 해석에 대한 단 하나의 정답을 제시할 수는 없지만, 그 답을 찾아가는 과정에서 얻은 깨달음만큼은 분명하다. 이번 음반은 300 년 전 바흐와의 무언의 대화를 통해 우리가 배운것들, 그리고 그 과정에서 발견한 아름다움을 담아내고자 한다. 이를 통해 바흐의 음악이 지닌 시대를 초월한 깊이와 감동을 청중들과 공유할 수 있기를 바란다.
