01. 신쾌동류 가야금 산조 – 진양조 02. 신쾌동류 가야금 산조 – 중모리 03. 신쾌동류 가야금 산조 – 중중모리 04. 신쾌동류 가야금 산조 – 자진모리 05. 신쾌동류 가야금 산조 – 휘모리 06. 신쾌동류 가야금 산조 – 엇모리 07. 새타령 08. 신쾌동류 가야금 풍류 – 타령 거문고 산조의 거장으로 널리 알려진 신쾌동(국가무형유산 제16호 거문고 산조 보유자, 1967년)의 숨겨진 가야금 음악 세계를 담은 특별한 가야금 앨범이 발매되었습니다. 이번 음반에는 '신쾌동류 가야금 산조', 남도의 대표적인 민요 '새타령', 그리고 그의 풍류 음악 중 하나인 '타령'이 수록되어 있습니다. 신쾌동은 어릴 적부터 다양한 전통악기를 익히며 음악적 깊이를 쌓아왔습니다. 그의 부친의 “군자는 음악을 알아야 한다.”는 신념 아래 9세 무렵의 신쾌동은 양금풍류를 공부했으며, 이에 이어 어린 시절 가야금, 대금, 단소풍류와 산조가락 등을 공부했습니다. 훗날 거문고의 명인으로 인정받은 신쾌동의 남아있는 음악 자료는 거의 거문고 산조입니다. 반면 그의 가야금 연주 녹음은 극히 드물었습니다. 이번 음반에 수록된 산조는 김재선의 장구 반주와 함께 연주된 유일한 신쾌동 가야금 산조의 카세트테이프(아세아 레코드, 1984년) 음원을 박세연 연주자가 복원하여 연주 녹음한 것입니다. 신쾌동류 가야금 산조는 진양, 중모리, 중중모리, 자진모리, 휘모리, 엇모리 장단으로 구성되어 있으며, 자진모리 내드름을 제외하면 거문고 산조와는 또 다른 개성을 지닌 독창적인 선율이 돋보입니다. 특히, 즉흥성이 강한 음악적 특성상 리듬과 멜로디가 자유롭게 흐르며, 듣는 이에게 산조 특유의 깊은 감동을 선사합니다. 이를 보다 완성도 높은 형태로 선보이기 위해 박세연은 이 곡을 채보하고 장단을 다듬어 연주하며, 산조 특유의 즉흥성과 감성적 흐름을 최대한 살려냈습니다. 규칙적이면서도 불규칙한 가락의 반복, 점점 고조되는 긴장감, 끝날 듯 끝나지 않는 휘모리 장단이 주는 강렬한 여운은 산조의 진수를 맛보는 특별한 경험이 될 것입니다. 남도잡가의 대표적인 민요인 '새타령' 은 봄날 지저귀는 새들의 모습을생동감 있게 표현한 곡으로, 원래 신쾌동의 녹음에서는 노래 없이 가야금과 장구 반주만으로 연주되었습니다. 이번 앨범에서 박세연은 이를 철가야금과 장구 반주로 새롭게 재해석하여 한층 색다른 음색과 깊이를 더했습니다. 또한, 신쾌동의 풍류 음악은 그의 거문고 산조만큼이나 주목할 가치가 있습니다. 1950~60년대 풍류음악을 즐기던 서봉 허순구 선생이 남긴 신쾌동의 실연 녹음이 존재하며, 이 소중한 자료는 전라북도립국악원 보존자료 복각음반 시리즈를 통해 처음으로 공개되었습니다. 여기에 수록된 가야금 풍류 '타령'을 박세연이 복원하여 다시 무대에 올렸습니다. 이번 앨범은 신쾌동이라는 거장의 숨겨진 예술세계를 발굴하고, 그의 가야금 음악을 현재성 있게 되살린 의미 있는 작업입니다. 신쾌동의 음악적 깊이와 박세연의 섬세한 해석이 만난 이 음반은, 전통을 사랑하는모든 이들에게 새로운 감동을 전할 것입니다. 깊이 있는 울림과 자유로운 즉흥성이 어우러진 연주들을 통해, 신쾌동이 그려낸 또 다른 음악적 세계를 체험하시길 바랍니다.
