We Are One 워터칼라(Watercolor)는 2005년에 1집 음반 'Hand Up'을 발표하고 주요 재즈클럽을 중심으로 지금까지 꾸준한 연주활동을 펼쳐오고 있는 퓨전재즈 그룹으로, 출시 예정인 2집 'We are one'은 충실한 음악적 완성도를 가진 재즈음반으로 주목을 받고 있다. Watercolor는 현직 실용음악과 교수 및 프로 세션 연주자로 구성된 실력파 퓨전재즈 팀으로, 1집 음반을 통하여 전통 재즈는 물론 브라질리언, 아프로큐반, 컨템포러리 재즈 등 다양한 현대 재즈사운드를 선보여 왔다. 이번 2집 음반은 1집과 음악적 맥락을 같이 하는 현대적 재즈화성법 구사 및 다양한 리듬의 전개를 바탕으로 발전된 연주기량과 사운드를 들려주고 있으며, 감성적이면서 선율적인 느낌이 강화되었다. 이번 음반에서는 'Brazilian Dance', 'Tumba Funk'등 현대재즈 관점에서 재해석된 라틴재즈 스타일의 곡과, 'Cruising West', 'My Clouds' 와 같은 비 재즈 매니아 에게도 편안히 다가갈 수 있는 곡. 또한 'Electra', 'Urban Legend' 등 현대적 화성과 리듬 컨셉이 사용된 곡, 'Reflections', '7th Way' 등 홀수박자(Odd meter) 그루브를 가진 곡 등 다양한 색깔의 곡들이 수록되어 있다. 특히 우정의 소중함을 표현한 'My New Friend'와 이번 음반의 타이틀 곡인 'We Are One'은 주요 재즈클럽에서 이미 라이브를 통해 Watercolor의 팬들에게 잘 알려져 있고, 자주 Request를 받고 있는 곡들로 알려져 있다. 2집 음반을 발표하면서 왕성한 라이브 활동을 펼칠 Watercolor는 앞으로도 꾸준한 연주와 상업음악의 룰에 얽매이지 않는 다양한 음악적 시도를 통하여 한국을 대표하는 퓨전재즈팀으로 자리매김할 것으로 기대된다. |
