01. 대금 시나위 8:11 02. 아쟁산조 19:51 03. 아쟁병주 18:30 04. 대금산조 16:44 총:63:20 대금: 서용석 ＊ 서용석의 '대금시나위' ▣ 무아의 경지를 넘나드는 신명의 가락 한국사람들은 예로부터 음악을 마음에서 우러나오는 것이라는 생각을 가져왔다. 마음이 슬프면슬픈 음악이 나오고 마음이 기쁘면 기쁜 음악이 나온다고 생각했다. 따라서 똑같은 가락을 타도 타는 사람의 마음상태에 따라 슬픈 가락이 되기도 하고 기쁜 가락이 되기도 하는 것이다. 말하자면 음악이란 연주자의 내면의 마음상태를 가장 자연스럽게 표현해주는 예술인 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 훌륭한 연주자는 음 하나 하나의 아름다움에 신경 쓰기보다는 전체적인 흐름과 감정의 변화가 어떻게 조화를 이루면서 자연스럽게 자신의 내면세계를 펼쳐나가는가에 가장 큰 관심을 갖게 된다. 서용석은 이러한 한국음악의 가장 중요한 속성을 누구보다도 잘 터득하고 있는 연주자이다. 그의 음악은 화려하지도 않고 기교적이지도 않다. 얼핏보면 평범해 보이는 그의 음악 속에는, 그러나 누구도 흉내낼 수 없는 그만의 광활한 음악세계가 펼쳐져 있다. 세상의 모든 것을 포용하고도 남을 만큼의 큰 스케일 속에 남도 음악 특유의 정서를 하나씩 하나씩 쌓아 올라간다. 그는 결코 서두르는 법이 없다. 그러나 어느새 그의 음악은 인간세상을 떠나 무아의 경지를 넘나든다. 그의 음악은 어떠한 구속도 받지 아니하고 자유롭게 시공을 초월한다. 가장 훌륭한 음악은 이미 음악이 아니어야 한다. 그것은 인간과 우주, 시간과 공간 그 자체이어야 한다. 서용석의 음악은 우리를 시공을 초월한 세계로 서서히 인도해 간다. 그 속에서 연주자나 듣는 사람이나 모두 한 몸이 되는 것이다. 그의 음악은 선이 굵은 것이 특징이다. 그 굵은 선에 힘이 들어가 있다. 그 힘은 그의 음악을 이끌어 가는 원동력이다. 그의 음악을 듣다보면 텁텁하면서도 구수한 우리의 숭늉을 연상하게 된다. 그의 음악 속에는 인간적이 따스함이 깃들어 있다. 인자한 이웃집 아저씨 같은 그의 모습처럼 그의 음악은 사람들을 편안하게 해준다. 이 음반에는 서용석이 연주한 대금시나위와 대금산조, 서영호가 연주한 아쟁산조와 서용석, 서영호가 함께 연주한 아쟁병주가 수록되어 있다. 시나위와 산조는 일정한 장단의 틀 위에 즉흥적인 가락을 얻어 연주하는 우리음악 특유의 음악양식이다. 시나위는 굿거리와 자진모리 장단에 실어 연주하고 산조는 느린 진양조에서 시작하여 중모리, 중중모리, 자진모리 장단으로 점점 빠르게 연주한다. 이 두 음악양식은 서로 많이 닮아있다. 시나위는 남도 무속음악에서, 산조는 시나위에서 파생되어 발전해왔다. 따라서 두 음악은 본질적으로 그 속성이 같다. 두 음악 모두 느린 장단으로 시작하여 빠른 장단으로 끝맺는다. 음악이 느릴 땐 한의 정서가 짙게 표현되고 음악이 빨라지면 흥의 정서가 주로 표현된다. 이들 음악이 서양음악과 다른 점은 똑같은 장단 내에서도 처음과 나중의 빠르기가 다르다는 점이다. 서양음악은 한번 템포가 정해지면 특별한 경우를 제외하면 그 템포가 계속 유지되는 것이 보통이다. 그러나 이들 음악에 있어서는 처음의 템포가, 음악이 점차 진행됨에 따라 서서히 빨라진다. 그 변화는 쉽게 감지하기 힘들다. 인간의 자연스러운 변화에 그 빠르기가 맞춰져 있기 때문이다. 즉, 연주를 계속함에 따라 자연스럽게 일어나는 미세한 신체적인 변화를 거부하지 않고 받아들인다는 것이다. 서양음악에 있어서는 점차 빨라지려는 이러한 욕구를 최대한 억제하면서 처음의 빠르기를 유지한다. 그러나 이들 한국음악에 있어서는 음악에 있어서의 이러한 심리적 속성을 그대로 받아들이면서 여기에서 흥과 신명을 이끌어 내는 것이다. 서용석의 대금산조가락은 한주환의 산조가락에 자신의 독창적인 가락을 더한 것으로 박종기, 환주환으로 이어지는 대금산조의 맥을 잇고 있다. 그의 가락은 남도음악 특유의 붙임새가 정확하고, 가락의 짜임새도 충실한 것이 특징이다. 아쟁산조를 연주한 서영호는 서용석과 부자지간으로 서용석의 음악적 특징을 그대로 닮고 있다. 거칠고 투박하면서도 힘찬 보잉은 그의 음악이 나이보다 훨씬 원숙해 있음을 보여준다. 특히 부자가 함께 연주한 아쟁병주는 이 음반의 가장 빛나는 성과물이다. 활로 그어내는 낮은 아쟁소리와 손으로 뜯거나 뜅기어 내는 아쟁소리가 서로 어울려 훌륭한 조화를 이룬다. 아쟁의 pizzicato 소리는 때로는 거문고처럼 묵직하게, 때로는 가야금처럼 경쾌하게 울리면서 음악에 리듬적인 활력을 불어넣어 주고 있다. 이인원 |
