01. 오솔길 (4:17) 02. 사랑하는 사람에게 (5:42) 03. 여름의 조각들 (5:13) 04. 달빛 (5:06) 05. 겨울의 정원 (4:08) 06. 바람에 이는 나뭇가지 (4:57) 07. 비밀 (3:41) 08. 가을의 뒷뜰 (3:32) 어느 피아니스트의 미치도록 아름다운 고백. 정재형, 첫 피아노 연주 앨범 [Le Petit Piano] 서울에서 파리로. 다시 파리에서 서울로 ‘음악이 흐르면 주위는 더 고요해진다. 피아노가 숨쉬는 소리까지 들린다.’ – 이적 정.재.형. 그의 이름 앞에는 너무나 다양한 수식어가 붙는다. 가수, 작곡가, 에세이스트, 영화음악 감독 등. 이제 우리는 그에게 또 하나의 이름을 붙이기로 한다. ‘피아니스트’ 정재형. 이제 당분간 우리는 그를 이렇게 부르기로 한다. 정.재.형. 그는 어느 한 두 단어로 규정 지을 수 없는 예술가다. 그를 아는 사람들은 그를 이렇게 말한다: ‘그는 자유롭고 또 자유롭다. 그는 바람처럼 자신이 가고 싶은 곳 어디든 향한다.’ 마치, 국내에서 최고의 음악가로 인정받던 90년대 어느 날, 서울에서 파리로 훌쩍 떠나버렸듯이. 그리고 2010년. 다시 파리에서 서울로 돌아와 우리 앞에 놓인 피아노에 앉아있듯이. 자유인 정재형, 그가 지금 우리에게 들려줄 얘기는 무엇일까. 파리의 작은 방에서 꾼 여덟 개의 꿈 ‘조심스레 건반이 노래를 시작하면 내 마음 속 잊혀진 시간과 그리운 얼굴이 춤을 춘다.’ – 유희열 그의 피아노 연주는 낭만적이며 격정적인 것으로 그의 팬들에게 널리 알려져 있다. 그런 기대로 그의 첫 피아노 연주 앨범 « Le Petit Piano » 를 섣불리 예상한다면 아마 당신은 놀랄지도 모른다. 왜냐하면 이 앨범에서, 그의 열 손가락은 너무나 편안하고 부드러우니까. 이 앨범에서 그의 숨소리는 피아노 위에 놓여진 여든 여덟 건반을 골고루 어루만진다. 아니, 그는 건반과 함께 호흡한다. 그래서, 예의 그의 공연에서 보던 에너지 충만한 타건과, 보는 이를 압도하는 그의 팔놀림을 이번 앨범에서 상상하긴 어렵다. 하지만 그는 그 대신 유럽과 아시아를 두 팔에 안은 그의 삶처럼, 세월의 폭을 따라 깊고 넓어진 눈매로 건반을 응시한채 비로소 음 하나 하나를 천천히 뿌린다. 그렇게 그의 음악은 깊어졌고, 시선은 넓어졌다. 따뜻하지만 외로운, 그래서 듣는 사람들의 지친 어깨에 두 손을 올리는 앨범 « Le Petit Piano ». 그의 피아노가 우리에게 대화를 건넨다. 아주 작은 하나 하나의 미물을 감싸안듯 조심스러운 터치로. 아름다운, 미치도록 아름다운 음악들 ‘모든 것을 안아주는 따뜻한 봄옷같은 놀라운 음악들.’ – 루시드폴 우리는 피아노 연주음반의 홍수 속에서 살고 있다. 그러기에 혹자는 이 앨범도 그저 ‘적절한 서정성’으로 무장한 그만그만한 피아노 음반이 아닐까 하는 편견을 가질지도 모른다. 하지만 이 앨범은 ‘적당히’ 아름다운 음반이 아니다. ‘미칠듯이’ 아름다운 음악, 그러나 결코 ‘천하지 않은’ 음악이 가득한 음반이 바로 « Le Petit Piano »이다. 이 앨범을 듣고 있으면 떠오르는 음악가가 있다. 바로, ‘피아노의 시인’ 프레데릭 쇼팽 (Frédéric François Chopin). 그리고 ‘달빛의 음악가’ 클로드 드뷔시 (Achille-Claude Debussy). 공교롭게도 두 음악가는 모두 파리를 주무대로 활동하던 클래식 작곡가이다. 대중음악계에서 엄청난 성공을 거두던 정재형이 갑자기 파리 고등음악원으로의 유학을 결심한 것도 우연은 아니리라. 그리고 그의 음악적 내공을 단련시킨 ‘파리’라는 공간을 이 앨범에서 마주칠 수 있는 것도 우연은 아니리라. 2010년, 올해는 프레데릭 쇼팽의 탄생 200주년이 되는 해이다. 그리고 2010년 봄, 우리는 정재형의 음반을 만난다. 피아노를 데우는 온기어린 멜로디. 그러나 폭풍처럼 우리 마음을 흔들다. ‘거르고 걸러져, 이윽고 남은 미세한 감정의 앙금들이, 되려 조용한 폭풍을 불러온다.’ – 김동률 앨범을 플레이어에 걸고 눈을 감으면, 첫 트랙 ‘오솔길’이 흘러 나오며 앨범은 시작된다. 어느새 그는 우리 옆에 앉아 조용히 말을 걸기 시작한다. 아니, 어느새 우리 옆에 나란히 서있다. 말 한 마디 없이도 편안한 친구처럼 정재형은 멜로디를 우리 발 걸음 앞에 조용히 늘어놓으며 40여분의 여행을 준비해 준다. 두번째 트랙 ‘사랑하는 사람에게’에서 그는 그의 사랑얘기를 ‘말없이’ 들려준다. 미처 말하지 못한 사랑고백을, 손 끝에서 흘러내리는 멜로디로 우리 앞에 꺼낸다. 따갑게 빛나는 한여름 햇살보다는, 꺼져가는 바닷가 모닥불 가에 드리워진 여름밤의 서늘함과 추억을 떠올리게 해주는 세번째 트랙 ‘여름의 조각들’. 그리고 클로드 드뷔시의 아름다움을 닮은 네번째 트랙 ‘달빛’이 이어진다. 가슴을 도려내는 듯한 아름다움이다. 그리고 추억은 다시 시간을 훌쩍 건너뛰어 다섯번째 이야기에 닿는다. 다섯번째 트랙 ‘겨울의 정원’을 들으며 그를 따라 걷다보면, 한 겨울의 매서운 눈보라가 아닌, 따뜻한 통나무집에 이르게 된다. 그리고 그 안에서 바라보는, 김서린 창문 밖의 햇살이 눈 앞에 피어난다. 시간은 다시 봄으로 옮겨가, 여섯번째 트랙 ‘바람에 이는 나뭇가지’에서 겨울을 견디고 봄을 준비하는 나뭇가지를 바라보는 그의 눈빛이 이윽고 우리의 귀를 울린다. 이렇게 아직 녹지 않은 눈 쌓인 어느 언덕의 풍경아래에서 일곱번째 트랙 ‘비밀 ’ 의 애수어린 멜로디가 흐르고, 여덟번째 트랙 ‘가을의 뒷뜰’이르러 이 아름다운 앨범은 서서히 갈무리된다. 그리고 앨범이 끝나갈 무렵, 그는 조용히 우리의 눈을 뜨게 하고 사라져 버린다. 마치 늦은 봄눈처럼. 4월의 벚꽃처럼. ‘작곡가’ 정재형과 ‘피아니스트’ 정재형. 두 페르소나의 만남 : « Le Petit Piano » 클래식 (Classic)이란, 비단 오래묵은, 오래된 것만을 뜻하지는 않는다. 시간의 때를 타지 않는 영원한 것. 그만한 가치를 간직하고 있는 것에 붙는 영예로운 헌사이다. 베토벤이 그렇고, 쇼팽이 그렇고, 비틀즈가 그렇듯이. 시간이 흐르고, 정재형의 이 앨범이 클래식의 반열에 오르게 될지는 아직은 알 수 없다. 하지만, 여덟 트랙의 이야기로 가득찬 이 앨범을 내려놓는 순간, 우리는 그의 앞으로의 음악적 행보에 대한 조심스러운 기대를 하게 될 수도 있다. 비록 이 앨범은 ‘작곡가’ 정재형과 ‘피아니스트’ 정재형의 만남을 알리는 시작에 불과하지만, 이제 우리에겐 시간이 흘러도 변하지 않을 음악을 만들어 낼 그의 인생을 기쁜 마음으로 바라보는 일만 남았으니까. 바람처럼 자유로운 음악가 정재형. 그의 결코 ‘작지 (petit)’ 않은 ‘피아노 (piano)’ 에서, 이제 새로운 바람이 불어온다. 그리고 이 바람은 우리의 귀를 이끈 채 작고 큰 공연장을 너머 오랜 시간을 걸쳐 이 세상에 계속 불고 있을 것이다. 그의 음악처럼 아름다운 향을 머금은 채. |
