CLASS:y는 2022년 2월 종영한 MBC 글로벌 K팝 걸오디션 '방과후 설렘'을 통해 탄생했다. 평균연령 16세의 성장 가능성이 무한한 7인조로, 방송 당시 11주 연속 비드라마 화제성 부문 1위를 차지하는 등 세계 K팝 팬들의 관심이 집중됐다. CLASS:y는 ‘수업(방과후 설렘)을 끝냈다'는 의미의 'CLASS’(Class is over), 새로운 시작(chapter)의 의미를 부여한 ‘:’(콜론), ‘같은 K팝이지만 차원이 다른 클라씨의 음악을 즐겨보자’는 ’Why(=Y) don’t we enjoy same same but different music of CLASSY?’를 결합한 팀명이다. ’오디션을 넘어선 클라씨가 차원이 다른 음악으로 세계 K팝 팬들을 사로잡겠다’라는 포부가 담겼다. CLASS:y의 세계관(UNIVERSE)은 'We customize our own'(우리의 것은 우리가 만든다)을 모토로 다양하게 변형, 확장된다. 전 멤버가 Z세대라는 점을 주목했다. 소비하는 주체이자, 생산하는 주체인 Z세대의 특성을 담아 적극적인 소통을 통해 매번 새롭게 커스터마이즈(Customize)하는 그룹으로 글로벌 K팝 시장에서 승부한다. CLASS:y는 첫 앨범을 '1st Mini Album Y'로 명명하고, 독특하게 전 곡을 타이틀로 정했다. 미지수로 대표되는 X가 아닌 미지수 Y(알려지지 않은 미지-unknown unknowns)를 넣어, 예측 불가능하고 스펙터클한 CLASS:y의 세계관을 예고했다. 데뷔앨범 타이틀명은 'CLASS IS OVER'로 CLASS:y의 개성과 정체성이 담긴 5곡으로 담겼다. 대표 타이틀곡은 파워풀한 에너지와 절제력이 강한 K-Wood(K-Pop + Bollywood)라는 독특한 장르의 'SHUT DOWN'(셧다운)이다. 폭발적인 코러스와 애드립이 인상적인 댄스곡으로, 새로워진 자신을 마음껏 펼쳐보자는 CLASS:y의 의지가 표현됐다. 히트메이커 라이언 전과 라이언 전 사단이 프로듀싱했다. |
